This June, 2021 would have been our 28th Annual Bikers Against Breast Cancer event, a fundraising event that has not only raised incredible awareness and support of SHAREing & CAREing’s cancer support services over the years but has helped financially sustain us as well.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and out of respect for the health of our community members and participants, our much-anticipated event was forced to be cancelled for the second year in a row. Despite this, The New York City Harley Owners Group and Harley Davidson of New York City, the two incredible organizations behind this fundraiser, have continued to fundraise for us. In their words:
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed, SHAREing & CAREing has also been unable to hold any of their annual events which are [one of] their primary sources of funding…. We hope that through the GoFundMe that we have set up, we can raise some funds for this wonderful organization to keep providing the support and outreach to families affected by breast cancer.
SHAREing & CAREing has been hit hard by the pandemic. Our in-person fundraisers for the last year and a half have been cancelled and our NYC Council funding, our largest funder, is in jeopardy due to the city’s budget gaps due to COVID-19. At the same time, with our local community in isolation with ever-more-pressing questions about healthcare and mental health, we have seen a 25% increase in the need for our support services. All of this boils down to providing more services to our community with less resources, all in a challenging virtual environment.
We need your help now more than ever. We are heartened and hopeful that despite the cancellation of one of our biggest annual fundraisers for the second year in a row, NYCHOG and HD of NYC have still marshalled their resources to support us by setting up a public GoFundMe fundraiser that anyone, biker or not, can donate to. Thank you for your love, good thoughts, and support!
